Purebred ewes from GLANTRE BELTEX flock peak at £630.
Superb demand and a delightful show of purebred ewes in their working clothes resulted in a pleasing 95% clearance rate at the production sale held on behalf of Messrs M & H Owen. All forward were in-lamb to Glantre Rufus (MHO.R040), a 2011 born ram sired by Airyolland Loyalty, and were due to lamb from mid March.
Kicking off the sale was a pair of yearling ewes (one scanned carrying a single, the other a twin); these girls set the bar high as they left the ring following the final call of £630/head, purchased by VE Lewis and Son, The Garn, Llanbadarn Fynydd.
Second highest call of the day was for a yearling ewe scanned carrying twins. This ewe was highly commended for her true to type Beltex shape, with tremendous gigot width down the leg. She caught the eye of Messrs DJ Lloyd and Co. of Cefnbarrach, Trefeglwys who bid to £470.
A pair of yearlings both carrying twins achieved the third highest call at £350/head, purchased by PJ Samuel and Sons, Rhosgree, Llanbister Road.
The consignment concluded with 2 Charollais X Beltex ewes (one scanned for a single, the other with a twin) selling for £200 independently.
The renowned Glantre Beltex flock has acquired a loyal following, recently being awarded the overall Champion Welsh Beltex Flock bearing testament to the quality built up.
Averages concluded at £280.28
